High Court issues 5 directives to ensure identities of complainants

The High Court (HC), in a full text of its June 14 order, issued five directives to ensure the identities of informants and complainants in criminal cases.

All concerned authorities have been instructed to abide by the directives

The High Court (HC), in a full text of its June 14 order, issued five directives to ensure the identities of informants and complainants in criminal cases.

A High Court division virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman had passed the short order after holding a hearing on a writ filed in this regard. 

The court then released the full text of that order on Tuesday.

The five directions are:

• NID card number/passport number of the complainant has to be provided in the FIR
• If the informant/complainant does not have a NID card, number of the NID card of the person identifying them has to be mentioned
• If under any circumstances, the complainant is found to have no NID card, the concerned police officer will take any other appropriate measure to confirm their identity
• While filing any complaint before any court or tribunal, if the complainant is found to have no NID card, their lawyers will have to identify them
• If the informant/complainant is found to be a foreigner, the number of his passport has to be mentioned in the FIR

The court in its order, directed the authorities concerned to send copies of this to the Home Ministry, Law Ministry, IGP, Supreme Court Registrar General, and CID, among other offices and personals.
